Hi, I'm Maddi and I'm hooked on Zumba.
I've been teaching Zumba in Newport Pagnell and Milton Keynes since April 2014. More than ten years on, I still get excited about a new track.

I didn't get it at first...
"I thought it was a bit weird. I didn't get the whoop whoop thing... but I persevered, and then it clicked."
My first ever Zumba class was at a little ladies' gym in Newport Pagnell. Honestly, I wasn't sure about it. But I kept going, tried more classes, and suddenly I was totally hooked. I was going to two or three classes a week. I tried pretty much every other class out there, but nothing was as great as Zumba.
I loved it so much that I wanted to teach it. In April 2014 I started my very first class in Lovat Hall, with five friends. That May I opened it up to the public. Arghhh, what was I doing?! Then a friend said she wanted to come twice a week, so I started another class in North Crawley... and the story continued from there.
Lovat Hall is still home to my Wednesday class today.
From village halls to the gym, and online
- 2014First class at Lovat Hall, Newport Pagnell, then a second class in North Crawley.
- 2015 – 2019Classes at gyms and leisure centres across Milton Keynes: GYM MK at Stantonbury, Wolverton, Middleton Pool and Freedom Fitness at Willen Lake. Also a corporate class for Mercedes-Benz, and Zumba Gold with a cuppa afterwards.
- 2020When the gyms closed, I set up a home studio within days and took my classes online. That's where my online classes came from, and they're still going strong.
- TodayWeekly ZUMBA and Zumba Toning in Newport Pagnell, plus 25 online classes you can do any time.
A community, not just a class
Lots of people come for the exercise and stay for the friends.
Dancing for charity
We danced a 5K for Comic Relief with Dance the Distance and raised over £700 plus Gift Aid. We've also supported Willen Hospice with Zumbathons, Blue Week and the Midnight Moo.
Nights out
Curry nights when the hall isn't available, Christmas drinks at The Plough with party games, and the legendary (very disorganised) Paella Fiesta.
Out in the community
I've introduced local Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to Zumba, including getting a whole crowd bouncing in Campbell Park on St George's Day.
Me time, a boogie, and fantastic people
I get to have a boogie, some "me" time and get fit with some fantastic people! It's a fun session and we do have a giggle. Personally, I've lost some weight and wobbles (not all of them!), regained some curves and have loads more energy.
My classes are for everyone: complete beginners, people coming back to exercise, and people who've been dancing with me for years. You don't need to be able to dance. Just keep moving and do it your way. We all wiggle differently!
